Marcus Purtzki, the purveyor of Calgary's finest ice cream, had been referred to us to build his new store in Edmonton. We were thrilled at the opportunity to participate, and cooperated with Oliver Apt. in the design and build.
Project Goals
Marcus's stores have a very progressive, unique design style. We helped pair him up with Oliver Apt. to achieve another memorable space.
The ice cream window in Edmonton is short... we'd have to plan efficiently and be open for summer!
Having chosen a hidden gem of a spot in a new Beljan development, Tipton block, the way-finding signage would need to be outstanding.
Marcus is a meticulous professional with an eye for detail, our aim was to meet his standards.
Retrofit’s Role
Retrofit first analyzed the base building drawings to help Oliver Apt. best plan the space, considering both aesthetics and engineering. We were involved in all aspects of the design regarding placement of equipment and millwork so that costs could be kept down by utilizing existing infrastructure, and minimizing new construction.
Project Highlights
There was an opportunity here to explore the playful side of design, while maintaining a subtle sophistication. We watched as Oliver Apt. paired post modernism with Willy Wonka. The results were mouth watering!
